At First Glance
Judging from the color of the night sky, it appears to be nighttime. Also, at first glance of this snapshot, the road (or at
least the right lane) appears to be empty; but is it really? Take a closer
look. Can you see anything? There are cars going by. Yup there are! The cars
are going at a speed that makes it almost impossible to capture on camera.
Hence the colorful streak of lines. Based on these lines, it’s safe to conclude
that this road is anything but empty. In fact, there is a lot of traffic.
In a lot of ways, this picture
reminds me of an introvert. From a quick glance, all you might see
is a quiet person who finds it difficult to talk aloud about anything.
However, take a deeper look and you just might begin to see that there is so
much more to an introvert person than just their quiet demeanor. From personal
experience, an introvert’s mind is anything but quiet. Our thoughts are
always racing to the point where our inner minds are almost as lively and vibrant
as our outer world. While we might not say one verbal word, our minds have had
a thousand thoughts.
One final thing about this image is the road, which to me implies there is also a destination. If we choose to focus on all the colors or lights or different things in this image, as beautiful as it might be in the beginning, it gets overwhelming. As students, especially introverts, college can be overwhelming especially at the beginning. So many people, so many classes, so many choices to make...
However, one thing to keep in mind is that like the picture, college life is currently also just a road that you are travelling on; and sooner or later you will get to your destination (whatever or wheresoever) you so choose.
So, at first glance, what did you see? What do you see now?
